Hi there, my name is Joy and today we’ll be talking about Retinol. Yes, because in my last Retinol video I got a lot of questions.
“I use this type of retinol. Why do I use this? Why am I using that? What is this? What is that?”
So yeah, Retinol is like the umbrella name for all kinds of Retinol. Yeah, we have different types of Retinol.
Like, there are different classes of Retinol, but the most popular ones are retinoic acid, which is also called Tretinoin. And, yeah, retinol of course. Now, if you are a beginner, you want to start with Retinol. Except you have a skin condition or skin concern, like you have acne, like you have those very big cysts, you have nodules or you have very bad hyperpigmentation, and you’re under the supervision of a skin specialist. Yeah, Tretinoin can be recommended to you.
Otherwise, if you want to have Retinol in your routine, you can actually start with Retinol but if you have long throat you want to go and Tret is actually very very potent.
Now don’t go and have long throat and say oh please, my body, my spirit, my soul needs tretinoin so I want to go straight to Tretinoin. No. You can start using Retinol and watch how your skin tolerates it.
Tretinoin is actually great for you if you have like I said, if you have acne and you have bad hyperpigmentation you are trying to treat. So that would be recommended to you by either a dermatologist or an aesthetician.
You cannot just go and buy Tretinoin because you will abuse it, you don’t know how to use it.
So yeah, you can start with the OTC that you see in drugs. Or you can just start with those that have a low percentage. Like Retinol 1% is good, 0.3% is fine, 0.5% is fine. Just as your skin can tolerate. Yeah, So don’t jump straight.
Now you know they are two. There are other types, there is Adapalene. There are other types of Retinol, but the most regular ones are Retinol and Retinoic acid, which is also Tretinoin.
So please know the difference, Tretinoin and Retinol. Tretinoin is great. It’s recommended. Tretinoin is a drug, so you cannot just go and buy it. It has to be recommended. If they recommended it for you, Great.
But then if you want to start out like you just reading this now and you want to say oh I want to start using retinol.
Don’t go and buy Trets. You can buy retinol that you know that, Okay, I can use this. Not Tretinoin please.
I hope this article is clear enough. I want to make it short so it’s not so confusing. Yes.
If you don’t understand or you still need further clarification, please drop your questions in the comments.
